Niels Aagaard Nielsen, registered nurse, diploma in nursing management, master in public administration. Since 2012 Head of care and development/head of department of Forensic Mental Health Service at Mental Health Center Sct. Hans, at part of Mental Health Services in the Capitol Region of Denmark.
The Forensic Mental Health Service at Sct. Hans, the largest forensic mental health department in Denmark with 116 inpatients and 80 outpatients, is building 8 new, closed wards with in total 126 beds to replace the wards that today are placed in older buildings, most of them from the late 19th century.
The department is focusing on modernising the forensic mental service by emphasising rehabilitation and recovery as core elements in treatment and care. The new building will accommodate different kind of meaningful activities that supports the rehabilitation process.
Niels Aagaard Nielsen has been working in different areas of mental health care since 1990, first as mental health nurse and ward manager and since 1999 as head of department. Until 2012 he worked in general mental health services in and outside Copenhagen which covered all aspects of mental health services including community based mental health service.
Niels Aagaard Nielsen has since 2006 been a member of Subcommittee Mental Health, a consultative organ within the EAHM.
